August 25-31, 2015 is National Safe at Home Week. Now is the time to assess your home for any hidden dangers. Check all your sockets and extension cords…are they overloaded which could spark a fire? If there is a fire, have you developed and practiced an emergency exit plan? Do you have clear pathways in your home to ensure an easy exit in the event of an emergency? Do you have the temperature too high on your water heater which could cause burns? When was the last time you checked the batteries in your smoke detector and your flashlights? Do you have the poison control number near the phone in the case of poisoning of children or pets? Are your rugs and carpets secure to prevent falls? These are all key safety checks a household needs to take into consideration during National Safe at Home Week. Take a moment to locate a first-aid kit, a three-day, non-perishable food supply and water in the event of inclement weather, power outages during a storm, or a flood. Be Safe, Be Prepared.
